In May 2009 Justice David Souter retired so Obama was left to choose a nominee for the open chair in the Supreme Court. So as a result of David’s retiring Obama choose Sonia Sotomayor as his nominee. After he picked his nominee the U.S. Senate will then confirmed Obama’s choice. Sonia Sotomayor was sworn in to the Supreme Court.

On July 20, 1969 the Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. “That’s one small step for man one giant leap for mankind,” he said. Almost 600 million people watched it on TV. Putting men on the moon was a accomplishment for the United States. The success of Apollo 11 and later Apollo flights increased our knowledge of the moon, the sun, and one other planet.
